EDUCATION AT THE HEART OF CHANGE: OUR SCHOOL IN BUDUBURAM
In the Buduburam Refugee Camp, access to quality education remains out of reach for many children. For them, school isn’t just a right—it’s a lifeline.
Future Stars began humbly, with nothing more than a makeshift classroom built under a tree. What started as a small, passionate initiative has since grown into a registered nonprofit—but the heart of our work remains the same: education for every child, no matter their circumstances.
Volunteers are essential to the success of our school. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact on children’s lives through teaching, mentoring, and play.
What You’ll Do:
- Teach or assist in subjects like English, Math, and Science
- Participate in sports, arts, and crafts activities
- Help build confidence and spark creativity in young learners
- Support the daily life of a vibrant, hope-filled school community
We provide orientation and training for all volunteers. You’ll begin by shadowing experienced teachers and gradually take on more responsibility as your confidence grows. Whether you’re a trained educator or just passionate about helping kids, your presence makes a difference.
By volunteering at Future Stars, you’re not just teaching—you’re building futures. For many of our students, you may be the first person to show them what’s possible beyond the camp.
If you’re interested in teaching, learning, and leaving a lasting mark on a child’s life, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
We now operate a full primary school in the Buduburam Refugee Camp, offering classes from preschool through 9th grade. The school consists of:
- 6 dedicated classroom buildings
- 1 administrative office
- Classes running from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Approximately 20 students per grade
- Over 150 children enrolled
Our school is not just a place to learn—it’s a safe haven, a second home, and a foundation for the future. Once our students complete their primary education, we work tirelessly to secure scholarships and sponsorships that allow them to continue their studies at higher levels.
- Over 500 students educated since inception
- 85% of graduates continue to higher education through our scholarship support
- 12 former students now working as teachers, assistants, or mentors in the program
- 40+ volunteers trained and placed in classrooms
